PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) is an anxiety disorder that can occur after someone experiences a traumatic event that caused intense fear, helplessness, or horror. PTSD can result from personally experienced traumas (e.g., rape, war, natural disasters, abuse, serious accidents, and captivity) or from the witnessing or learning of a violet or tragic event. It can affect young or old, from the smallest child suffering from abuse to the strongest soldier witnessing the horrors of war.
Please join us on October 23rd in order to understand the causes, symptoms of, and treatment options for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in children and adults. This presentation will give an overview of PTSD, - - what it is, why it happens, and how it's treated.
Our speaker will be Tracy Luoma, the Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant for Samaritan Behavioral Health in Eaton, Ohio. Tracy received her Master of Science from Wright State University, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and also a National Certified Counselor. She has experience providing services to families and children in various treatment settings.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Preble County Chapter, announces two free educational class series.
Hand-To-Hand --Classes pending for Spring of 2009. Call 937-472-6034 for information.
Learning your child has an emotional/mental or neurobiological disorder can be overwhelming. Caring for that child can be an extraordinarily difficult task for any parent. Hurdles to overcome may include educating yourselves on the illness and medications, coping with social stigma, dealing with insurance companies and raising siblings that are well or may have problems of their own. The Hand-to-Hand Family Education Program has been developed to address these concerns, help parents to cope with these unique stresses as well as to assist parents in caring for this own well-being.
The Hand-to-Hand Family Education Program consists of a series of 9 free weekly classes and has been developed and is taught by family members, who are part of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). You will be joining other families with children or teens with serious mental/emotional disorders including major depression, bipolar disorder, childhood schizophrenia, ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder and anxiety disorder, among others. The program's dual focus on education and personal insight provides a comprehensive service for coping parents.
